As a well-established online business dedicated to high-quality, high-end hair extensions, Glam Seamless found success with their first physical location opened in Soho last year. This space was designed by Sergio Mannino Studio and was such a hit that they have now designed their new West Broadway location as well. The space, which was previously occupied by the Japanese streetwear company Billionaire Boys Club, is now unrecognizable. The elements of the space are all but gone and have been replaced with vibrant shades of Glam’s signature pink color. Now, on walking through the doors, there’s no denying that the space exudes a feeling of femininity, calmness, and luxury that is ideal for the younger female client base.
One of the only original elements to remain is the arched ceiling on the second floor, which was expanded to include two smaller arches located at the top and bottom of the staircase. These arches use the powerful influence of color to promote Glam Seamless’ unique brand image. Pink stripes start light pink and then progressively get darker until they reach a rich, dark pink at the top, completing an eye-catching gradient.
Color variation is a major part of the design for the rest of the space as well, with the double-height forefront featuring a light pink stripe by the floor and proceed to reach a dark chinaberry on the ceiling. This inclusion of red conjures an environment of passion, energy, and love. When combined with the pink hues, it also allows the space to possess a mature essence.
A high-end hair salon in New York stands out with a clear concept, strong brand identity, and careful use of space. In a crowded market, luxury shows through good proportions, quality materials, great lighting, and a consistent look between branding and interior design. The best salons avoid generic décor and create a unique atmosphere that shows expertise, confidence, and cultural relevance as soon as clients walk in.
To design a hair salon with a strong brand identity, start by defining your target client and the feeling you want the space to give. The layout, colors, custom furniture, signs, and lighting should all reflect that identity. When branding and interior design work together, the salon space becomes a real-life extension of the brand, helping clients recognize and trust it.
The cost to design a hair salon in New York City depends mainly on the conditions of the space you are working with. Then of course, on its size, how much you customize, the materials you choose, and how complex the permits are. A small boutique salon costs less, while a fully custom flagship with special furniture, lighting, and branding costs more. Besides construction, remember to budget for design fees, drawings, permits, insurance, and loss of revenue during construction. A well-designed salon adds long-term value, helps operations, and strengthens your brand. We always recommend our clients NOT TO RENT a space unless the overall design is in place. Design is time-consuming, and you don’t want to pay rent for nothing or rush the design. Contrary to what most people think, you can design a hair salon even if you do not have a space yet.
The layout of a salon affects comfort, privacy, and how smoothly things run. Clear walkways help avoid crowding, make staff more efficient, and keep the space calm for clients. Reception, waiting areas, styling stations, wash basins, and retail displays should be placed in a way that feels natural. A good floor plan balances open space with clear zones, so clients can move easily and the salon looks organized.
Good salon lighting needs to be both practical and create the right mood. Stylists need bright, color-accurate lights to see hair tones clearly. Clients appreciate soft, flattering light that makes them look good in the mirror. Using layers of lighting, like general, task, and accent lights, keeps the look consistent in all areas. Bad lighting can make colors look wrong and hurt the overall experience.
A small hair salon can feel bigger by using good proportions, keeping things tidy, placing mirrors well, and choosing materials carefully. Built-in storage helps keep surfaces clear, and a simple color scheme makes the space feel calm. Custom furniture that fits the space prevents wasted areas. Even small salons can feel high-end if you pay attention to size, lighting, and details.
Salon design builds customer loyalty by making people feel good and comfortable. The space should make appointments run smoothly, offer comfortable seating, provide privacy when needed, and include retail in a subtle way. Good sound control, pleasant materials, and a clear layout all help create a positive experience. When clients feel confident and relaxed in your salon, they are more likely to come back.
Hair salons in New York City have to follow building codes, plumbing rules for wash stations, ventilation standards, accessibility laws like ADA, and local health department regulations. You’ll need architectural drawings to get permits. Working early with architects, engineers, and permit specialists helps make sure your salon meets all NYC rules and still looks great.
Branding defines the atmosphere, material choices, spatial hierarchy, and visual language of a hair salon. A well-developed brand identity establishes tone (minimal and clinical, bold and expressive, soft and feminine, or refined and architectural), and the interior translates that identity into physical form. Color strategy, typography integration, custom furniture, mirror design, and even circulation patterns reflect the brand’s values. When branding and store design are developed together, the salon becomes a coherent environment rather than a decorated space. This alignment strengthens recognition, builds trust, and differentiates the salon in a competitive New York beauty market.
A specialized hair salon design studio takes a strategic approach, bringing together branding, interior design, and customer experience into one clear plan. A general contractor handles construction but does not shape the brand or the story of the space. Salon owners get more value from a design-led process that connects looks, function, and business goals, helping the salon stand out and grow over time.
