Dear John #1 - A tribute to John McCracken
The piece is a tall, flat panel in deep purple-burgundy wood, backlit with warm LED light that escapes from behind and pools on the floor. It doesn't announce itself as a lamp. It leans. That's the point — McCracken's monolithic planks leaned too, resting against the wall with a kind of deliberate casualness that made you unsure if they were sculpture or furniture. This is the same question, answered with light.
The series was designed in 2015 and featured in Wallpaper and Design Milk. Limited edition of 10, signed and numbered.
Dear John #1 can stand on the floor or mount on the wall. The wire exits from the back directly into the wall, or through a small opening at the base for plug-in use.
